Sermon Notes
The Hugenots were French protestants who believed in the priesthood of the believer and rejected the Catholic teaching that human intermediaries were needed for effective intercession. Their desire to pray freely lead them to Americas. Soon after they arrived, they were killed by the Spanish.
The price of prayer is seen most clearly in Jesus time in Gethsemane.
1) The Price of Humility = Admission
Jesus humbled himself in prayer at Gethsemane - Matthew 26:36-38
The Syro-phoenician woman begged Jesus to heal her daughter - Matthew 15
2) The Price of Aloneness
In Gethsemane, the disciples were unable to stay awake and pray with Jesus
Jesus often went to desert places to pray
3) The Price of Pressure
Prayer is a kind of inescapable toil - Luke 22:43-44
"Prayer is the most important thing in my life. If I should neglect prayer for a single day, I should lose a great deal of the fire of faith." -- Marlin Luther
4) The Price of Surrender
Jesus prayed, "Not my will, but thy will be done"
